Florida lawmaker brings back "ag gag" bill
Dec. 09, 2011
The Florida Independent reports that a state senator has reintroduced legislation to stop animal rights activists from obtaining photographic records of farming operations in Florida.
The original bill failed to reach the floor during the 2011 legislative session. Similar measures also failed in Iowa, Minnesota and New York. (Harvest Public Media reported on the issue earlier this year: "Why they want to ban photos of farm animals in Iowa.")
The revived bill in Florida retains the same language as the original, yet has been tacked onto the end of a larger agricultural bill that also addresses issues relating to stormwater fees, fuel taxes, commercial feeds, and farm equipment, the Florida Independent said.
